Cecile McLoren Salvant awaits her Grammy

Cecile McLoren Salvant's first album, The Making of a Woman Child was nominated for an Emmy in the Jazz Vocal Performance category. The twenty-three year old singer didn't win, (losing out to the smoother stylings of Gregory Porter) but we're taking bets that her day will come.
Introducing Woman Child
Cecile first commanded attention when she won the vocal division of the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition in 2010. Her horn based approach combines elements of Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Betty Carter. She stands in the the first rank of rising young jazz stars and is an artist deserving of greater recognition so we're going to help her along. Give a listen and hopefully, on the day she finally wins her Grammy, we can say "we knew her when".
