Classmate News, Volume 1 No. 3 December 20, 2013

Harold Levine
Classmate News, Volume 1, No. 3 Friday morning edition
Duly Noted Department:
Condolences to the family and loved ones of Ed Barber, Class of ’70 who passed recently at age 61.
Congratulations to George Hayes and his daughter, who received her Master’s Degree in something smart.
Happy Birthday to Brad Gutcheon, who is 16 - and looks every day of it.
Turning to the world of politics:
Lanie Harth Defranco, Bette Rosenthal and Howard Shaker all like Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass, BTW). They are not alone.
Gayle Sirkin and Bill Moyers are wondering what to do about the predator class. Start a revolution? Got to revolution!!
Charles Williams thinks the government is nuts.
Laura Harrison is fighting the good fight for the right … (no, not that right).
Judy Klein Evans is sharing thoughts on Barack Obama, the President of Cool.
Cliff Hyatt continues to come out swinging for humanitarianism in all it’s elusive guises ‘cause he’s just that kind of champion.
Howard Shaker is pulling back the curtain on every Oz he can find.
Rick Rome recently shared a suite with U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (can’t quite place him) at a BeyoncĂ© concert (name rings no bells at all). At least somebody who was there is famous.
Turning to the weather:
Dennis Hubbs claims that winter is here and he has the pictures to prove it.
And in sports:
Michael Scagle posted an homage to recently signed New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran. Jeannie Kessler had a singularly apt response, which I quote in it’s glorious, delightful entirety: “Gag.” (As a Sox fan all I can say is, why bother with the truly irrelevant?" (heh, heh, heh).
Returning to local news:
Rhonda Goldstein Shurlock has gone from wrapping paper to sharing recipes. Retirement suits her, don’t you think?
Pamela Frank-Hall has a new slo-cooker. It will be awhile before we can report what she has cooked up but we do know that she is a hippie (whatever they were).
Elaine Graziano Fiorelli is strolling through the Magic Kingdom.
Harriet Rodgers Paine sees the world through remarkable lenses.
Jeffrey Jacobs is contemplating religion in a most non-religious manner.
Lou Schiavone is looking good.
Louise Battison Rodrique has one good looking Christmas tree.
Debbie Tulip Cacella Zahorodni is typing Christmas Carols.
Psst! Bob Larensen is Santa Claus. Pass it on.
Lea Chajes does not like chemically treated cash register receipts (who knew?) but she does like connecting with other folks.
Lissa Bain Hurtado does not usually vent on Facebook - but she just did.
Luci Allen changed her profile picture and then changed it again – but we would know that gal anywhere.
Holly Lebed finds everything fascinating.
Our friends, (many of whom are us), over at “You Know You Grew Up in Bloomfield If …” are once again recreating memories of Old Bloomfield. Ah yes, the land of Youth Center, (my Mama worked there), Charlie Brown’s, (my sisters did not get fired from there), Goldenthal’s (he never smiled) Five and Dime, Grand Union, Drug City and, of course, A.C. Peterson’s Farms - not to be confused with Blonde Abigail’s Farm Shoppe - where most of the rest of us did time.
Finally, while some say, “it is a soul shifting paradigm”, others insist that, no, it is false and flawed logic, I say that, in this land of hopes and dreams, where any one-eyed man may become king, it is really, truly true. Nobody wins unless everybody wins.
Happy holidays, happy trails and so on and so on and …
