'Tis Tim Tebow Day

UPDATE: August 29, 2013

It's been nearly three months since the Patriots signed him and the question remains, "What exactly is Tim Tebow doing here?"

Was it a favor to Urban "Always Under Fire" Meyer, Bill Belichek's pal and Timmy's college coach at U of Florida?
Was it a far to little and much to late last ditch pitiful attempt to exorcise the demons within his former college team mate, the suspect Aaron Hernandez?
Was it an attempt to prop up the now tattered and discredited notion that there is a "Patriot Way" that was embodied and exemplified by the quality and character of the men who wear the uniform? (Memo to R. Kraft: We stopped being fooled by that canard about the time gun slingin' Corey Dillon strapped 'em on and stalked about the Foxboro plains).
Or was it a far more benign attempt by the mad scientist, Coach Bill, to try to demonstrate that there is some semblance of a worthwhile professional football player lurking within the former Heisman Trophy winner?
Tonight, we find out. Tonight is Timmy's final stand. Tonight is his last chance to show there is any reason to keep him around other than that he is a fine fellow, the owner loves him, the coach likes him, his teammates do too and he may even have a direct line to powers that reside above and beyond Mad Bill. Heck, he even showed that he is capable of fading into the background on a good team that doesn't really need him in order to win.

So far, after three exhibition preseason games, one of which he was not even invited onto the field of combat, the evidence is overwhelming and nearly irrefutable and there is not a scintilla of evidence that he can play the game at the pro level.

The guess here, and I've been wrong about this fella before (see below), is that he can't play and there is no reason to keep him around unless it's as a Dr. Feelgood in the locker room. If that is the case, shed no tears for Tim Tebow. He will accept his fate with his usual faith and move onto the next phase of his life, whether as a motivational speaker or something else to which he is better suited. Whatever it may be and wherever he may roam, good luck and the saints be with ya, Tim.

UPDATE: June 10, 2013
Tim Tebow signed with WHO?

Well, isn't this just perfect. Tebow comes into camp, works harder than anyone else, remains the same smart, humble, reverent, kind and a deeply flawed football talent as ever. And no one, but no one, expects or needs him to be THE SAVIOR for the very simple reason that the Pats already have one. His name is Tom Brady and after him, there shall be no other. But Tebow is tailor made for "In Bill We Trust" and his right hand man, who also happens the guy who took a chance and drafted him in the first place, Josh McDaniels, a chance that cost John his job), to tinker with just one time.

December 18, 2011

Lordy, Lordy, let this be the day
The Patriots drive Tim Tebow away.
Bend de bow and make it break,
don’t let it drive another stake
Into this crammed dome of mine.
Yes, make him lose just one more time
Then, when I turn on TV I may see
Someone just a tad less perfect -
someone just like me!

(Can I get an Amen!)

Postscript: It's about what I expected, Pats 41 Broncos 23. The Pats are after much bigger game and it's too soon for Denver.

As for TBOW goes, the jury remains out. Is he a tremendous football player without a position. He will win some games in the NFL, whether in Denver or somewhere else. He's smart, tough intelligent, mobile and let's not forget REAL BIG, which always helps. He reminds me of a cross between Fran Tarkenton, Michael Vick and Ben Rothlisberger except that he can't throw the ball at all.. And, as far as I know, he's probably a better guy than at least two of them.

Now, if we can just get the media roar down to a reasonable decibel level and spare me at least some of the details of any portion of his life that has nothing to do with football -that goes for every other athlete, sports reporter and sports media outlet the whole world over as well - I will be very happy, indeed.
