Billie Holiday made each note of every song she sang personal

Billie Holiday made each note of every song she sang desperately personal. She didn't need a stage filled with fanfare or smoke and mirrors to do it. All she had to do was stand still, open her heart and sing to produce music that was elegant and intimate, delicate and warm, dramatic, cathartic and ultimately, tragic.
