Billie Holiday made each note of every song she sang desperately personal. She didn't need a stage filled with fanfare or smoke and mirrors to do it. All she
had to do was stand still, open her heart and sing to produce music that
was elegant and intimate, delicate and warm, dramatic, cathartic and
ultimately, tragic.
